Juneau, Alaska Saturday, November 21, 2009 Today began the journey home from the eagles. Breakfast was at the usual time in the Bamboo Room. The conversation at breakfast recalled the good, the bad, and the ugly of the week out in the snow and ice viewing the eagles, but then changed to a discussion of future locations that we can visit for new and unique photo opportunities. Locations include Canada for polar bears, Canada for harp seals, Yellowstone in winter, the Everglades, Costa Rica, Africa, and more. Following breakfast, we had our second and final photo critique session where we each chose three of our photos to present to the group for comment. This is such a fantastic group of nine people, now friends, and everyone’s comments and suggestions were welcomed and discussed seriously. Following the more formal critique, we each set up a running slide show of many of our other photographs and we just wandered around sharing our images. At 11:30 am, we loaded up the Expedition vans and transferred down to the ferry terminal. The ferry back was one of the newer Fairweather class boats that was much faster than the ferry we took up from Juneau. We did about 35 knots back to Juneau. One of us continued on to the airport to continue his trip home. The rest of us will stay the night at the Travel Lodge in Juneau and fly out on Sunday. Three are on an early flight to Seattle leaving at about 7:15 am, and the rest of us are on the 1:15 pm flight to Seattle. From Seattle, we will split up and fly our separate ways. Dinner was at the Travel Lodge and the discussion concentrated a lot on those future possible trips. It should be interesting to see which trips come to fruition. A lot of locations require special government permits and may take a while to arrange. Since the rest of this expedition is just flying on commercial airlines, this should be the final journal entry. If something really interesting happens, I can always add it on. This was a spectacular photo expedition. Rick Hunter rickhunterimages.com |
